Sleep Director Doctor Confirms Shiny Prequel Cancellation Due to Box Office Disappointment

Thanks to his achievements with Gerald game and then Dr. SleepSome horror fans believe director Mike Flanagan is the perfect choice to continue exploring the worlds of Stephen King, and while the TV series Flanagan planned to develop this was a precursor to the shining It seemed unlikely, Flanagan recently confirmed that the project is dead for good. He also indicated that the reason for dissolving the project was due to poor financial reception Dr. Sleep. Fortunately, Flanagan still has a number of troubling projects on the horizon, while King’s Worlds continues to expand in a variety of media.

When a fan shared artwork to promote the series that would have focused on Dick Hallorann, Flanagan shared the artwork with his followers with the caption, “We’ve been so close. I’ll always regret it didn’t happen.” This inspired one fan to ask about the fate of the project, Flanagan I honestly admit the reason for canceling it“because of Dr. SleepIn a box office performance, Warner Bros. Not to continue it. They control the rights, so that was the case.”

Although not necessarily a huge financial success, Dr. Sleep It performed relatively well, with 78% of its reviews being positive, according to the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. One of the last times Flanagan spoke about the project was in 2020, delivering a disappointing update at the time that seemed unlikely to move forward. He also explained at the time in detail what he hoped to explore through the project.

“There is this huge part of [Hallorann’s] The life where King didn’t give anything, and that’s where we want to play. The fun part about it is that I have tags on both sides of that story,” the director explained in 2020. I know where it starts and I know where it ends. It’s all about getting it from this little kid at the beginning Dr. Sleep, who talks about his evil grandfather and learns about glosses and cupboards and makes him that guy who takes the job at the Overlook Hotel. And it is clear, as is mentioned in all the books, that he had a very painful experience in room 237, or 217 in the book.”

He added, “This is going to be a great job. I don’t know how to approach that. I know I will need to communicate with King constantly, to make sure we don’t mess with his character,” while stressing that he has a “thorough outline” for that trip.

Stay tuned for details of Flanagan’s future projects.
